Warner Bay Thursday Night News

American Laser Radial Sailor Anna Tunnicliffe who grew up in Michigan is leading after three days of racing. Andrew Campbell is won a race during Wednesday’s racing to pull within only a few points of the leaders. Winds have been up to 12 knots and down to 4 knots, a lot like the racing Warner Bay. Note the thin mainsheet and no gloves on Anna boat.

Winds last week were very good Robert reported to me about last Thursdays Racing on 7 August with 11 racers on the water and three new competitors joining the fleet. Eric Simonson who has a young family and a busy schedule and who also races a J80 came down for the first time and got second place.

Back to the Olympics, the biggest surprise is Zach Railey in the Finn Class where he started the regatta out very well leading after two days and who is currently in a solid second place with half the races completed.

Sally Barkow and the rest of Team Seven are closing in on the rest of the Yngling racers with their first win of the regatta on Wednesday. BARKOW said the team had taken their reserve day as a chance “to relax and refocus on our decision making and preparation.” Lying in third place and with three races of the Opening Series still remaining, the Americans will have their sights set firmly on making up more ground on the leading duo.

In other news, several Madison Laser sailors made it up to Door County to race in the Ephraim Regatta in Flying Scots, Dierk Polzin raced with his dad and 6 other boats from Monona went up.

Colin Cassidy got married in early August. I guess the heavy air Lasering the two weeks before were his last days of the easy life.

Ed Eloranta is off to Africa for three weeks attending a wedding and feeding the Lions on Safari.
