The forecast for light winds did not stop the Madison Laser Fleet
from completing three races to help benefit the Boy Scouts of
America. Special thanks for the hard work and good judgment from
the race committee of Tom and Cindy McCann and Jean Derengowski.
Racing in the light winds that could be least described as “steady,”
many sailors found themselves going upwind and downwind several
times on the same leg of the course. Huge leads were amassed and
taken away in an instant. Several sailors (Jeff and Robert) found
themselves stuck in a vortex of no wind while boats only feet away
were zooming by. The “vortex of no wind” also caught an unnamed
sailor before the start. Apparently the skipper was enjoying a swim
and missed the start by over three minutes! What a rookie….
Special thanks go out to Tom “from Illinois” and his wife. The two
traveled up from the flat land to join us. Tom’s wife helped with the
race committee instead of going shopping! She’s a keeper.
Don Derengowski never looked better sailing his boat. During the
fina race all the competitors took notice of a nice looking young
lady in his boat wearing a skirt! Thanks Don for upgrading the fleet!
Thanks to all the competitors for their enthusiasm during the difficult
but challenging racing conditions.
